At Dejamu we believe in a simple life and in connection with nature. For twenty years we have dedicated ourselves to working the land responsibly and creating growth opportunities for the people of the region.
We are a responsible agribusiness
We are located in an area where agribusiness and livestock farming are permitted. Twenty years ago we received land eroded by intensive agriculture: over time we have significantly improved the health of the soil, planted thousands of trees and created pockets of biodiversity that did not exist before.
We do not use agrochemicals
Our soils are healthy and free of contaminants. This improves the quality of pastures, promotes natural biodiversity and helps us produce cleaner, healthier food.
We practice silvopastoralism
Our pastures combine cattle raising with tree planting on the same land. This improves soil health and biodiversity, reduces erosion, and provides cows with shade and additional wild food.
We planted thousands of trees
We have planted nearly 14,000 trees of native species in Subachoque and Chocontá. And we continue to do so at a rate of 1,000 trees every two months, depending on the rainy season.
We help protect the Bogotá River basin
We have planted 4,000 trees in the upper basin of the Bogotá River and plan to plant many more. This helps reduce erosion and filter pollutants from the water. It also contributes to wildlife and the ecological stability of the river.
We are a source of employment and development
Today Dejamu generates 600 direct jobs that contribute to the economic fabric of Subachoque. We are recognized by the community and the local government as a development agent for the municipality. More than 2,100 signatures support our work.
We employ female heads of household
We specifically hire single mothers and offer them formal employment and growth opportunities that they would have difficulty finding in other jobs offered in the region, such as day laborers, security guards, servants, or farm stewards.
We offer opportunities for growth
In addition to ongoing training programs, Dejamu has a scholarship program for higher education, some of which are abroad.
Most of those who run our operations today started out as workers without a high school diploma and with few job prospects. Today, many of them are professionals, which has multiplied the opportunities for them and their families.
